LEGACY

Donald Murray

Robert Murray
History: Meet the Team
In 1987, Matheson Corp. research chemist Donald Murray was working to solve the vexing problem of meeting the ever tightening purity requirements for specialty gas applications, especially those specific to the semi-conductor industry. In keeping with Moore’s Law, gas suppliers have had to continually re-double their efforts to control the corrosive effect of gases inside the cylinder. Donald’s work verified that the weak point in the gas delivery system was, in fact, the cylinder. This led him to embarked on a two-year mission to solve the problem by nickel coating the inside of the cylinder.
Prior to the development of this new technology, the only way to insure the purity of these highly corrosive gases was to package them in cylinders made entirely from either nickel, copper, palladium or gold. The costs often outweighed the benefits. Donald's premise of electroless nickel coating the inside of the vessels was the logical alternative to these expensive options.

Three decades have gone by and Donald has since passed, but AMES continued on through his son Robert. Following his father’s tried and true methods, he vigilantly pursued improvements in process and procedures without compromising the original science behind his father's vetted signature research.
Moving Ames from their manufacturing facility in Paterson, NJ to a newly renovated 20,000 square foot facility located in New Brunswick, NJ, ownership has set the stage for our customers satisfaction. The new commitment to production capacity, cost effective processes and statistical process control will insure the legacy of AMES is carried into the future.
